The AFL-CIO serves as an umbrella for 56 labor unions in the United States, representing more than 12.5 million American workers. Through its education, political action, organizing, and other programs, the AFL-CIO empowers working people on the job, strengthens their role in the community, and advances their interests in the halls of Congress.

The Industrial Areas Foundation is the nation's largest and longest-standing network of local faith and community-based organizations. The Sierra Club is the largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization -- with more than two million members and supporters. Transit Riders for Public Transportation is a national campaign initiated by the Labor/ Community Strategy Center and Bus Riders Union to bring environmental justice and civil rights priorities to the upcoming federal surface transportation act—whose budget is estimated to be at least $500 billion.
