Ride Safe

Protect yourself and transit workers: pledge to #RideSafe during COVID-19

Now more than ever, we need riders to stand with transit workers as allies and advocates. Our goal is simple: to keep riders and workers safe and to keep transit systems running during this crisis and beyond.

Take the Rider Pledge:

  1. Demand Safe Service now:

Support ATU’s demands that transit agencies protect the frontline by signing our Safe Service petition at bit.ly/safeservicenow

  2. Stay home, and ride only when absolutely necessary

Essential workers are relying on public transit to get to the frontline. If you don’t absolutely need to get somewhere, keep them safe by staying home.

  3. Wear a mask before, during, and after you ride*

Always wear a mask when you go out, especially when you ride the bus or train.

  4. Board from rear doors wherever permitted*

Many transit systems are foregoing fare collection and have shifted to rear door boarding. If your transit system is among them, make sure to board from the back.

  5. Socially distance at stops, in stations, and on board

Sit as far away from the driver as you can, while also staying at least 6 feet/2 metres away from other passengers.

  6. Honor passenger limits, and if the vehicle is crowded take the next bus/train

Even if your transit system isn’t capping the number of riders per bus/train, if a vehicle seems crowded, try to take the next one.

  7. Be patient, with transit workers and each other

WE’RE ALL ON THIS RIDE TOGETHER. LET’S KEEP EACH OTHER SAFE.

    * If you have a disability and cannot wear a face covering or need to board from the front, stay safe by following the other guidances.
