ATU Celebrates Pride Month

On June 28, 1969, the first major protest for LGBTQ+ rights was born. After a police raid of a popular gay club in New York City called the Stonewall Inn turned violent, members of the LGBTQ+ community and sympathizers fought back against the authorities. A year later, in 1970, the first official gay pride parade was held in New York. To further commemorate the uprising, June was later designated Pride Month.

Although we have come such a long way, even today, LGBTQ+ people are still under constant attack, especially trans people and people of color, who continue to face discrimination and efforts to deny them basic human rights, including a life free from violence.
