Last night, more than 70 ATU leaders convened for a virtual meeting of the ATU State Legislative Conference Boards hosted by International President John Costa to discuss our 2026 legislative agenda and priorities as states kick off their legislative sessions for 2026.
“We, as a union, must get involved in politics at the local, state, and national levels to help build a better future. From securing transit funding, to fighting the impacts of automation, safety on the job, and strengthening worker power, we face many critical issues impacting our jobs, our industry, and our communities,” said Costa. “We need to fight back on the federal level and state level. Our Conference Boards play that key role on a state level. We, as a union, have always proven that we are up to any challenge and will always fight for our members and our riders.”
The meeting covered a detailed review of the updated ATU State Legislative Agenda on the critical issues and policies impacting our members and Union. Attendees engaged in lively and informative discussions and updates about their legislative fights and issues at the state level. Joining Costa were International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo, International Secretary Treasurer Ken Kirk, and members of the ATU General Executive Board attended.
This meeting exemplifies the solidarity and strength of the ATU, as leaders came together to discuss the challenges faced by our Union and our legislative priorities to ensure a stronger, brighter future for our members.
