ATU: White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment Report Will Give Workers a Stronger Voice

Silver Spring, MD – Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) International President John Costa released the following statement applauding a new report released by the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment, chaired by Vice President Kamala Harris and co-chaired by long time union member and leader, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh.

“The recommendations of this report, when acted upon, will help grow the middle class. By recognizing the important role that unions play to empower and change the lives of workers, the Biden Administration has once again shown its deep commitment to lifting up working people. These recommendations will help strengthen our democracy by giving more workers the right to organize and bargain collectively.

“The ATU looks forward to helping President Biden to implement these important recommendations that will give all workers a strong voice in the workplace and the tools they need to succeed, including involving transit workers and unions in the development of policies concerning emerging technologies in the transit industry and strengthening the voice of unions on advisory committees. While we applaud the recommendations, it’s time for Congress to take immediate action to make the legislative changes needed to fix our labor laws, including passing the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act).”
