ATU Celebrates Ossoff and Warnock Victories

ATU Ossoff/Warnock Express Bus and Georgia members mobilized voters across the state

Silver Spring, MD – The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) celebrates Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock's critical election victories, flipping the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.

"Working families across Georgia made their voices heard with the election of Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock," said International President John Costa. "The ATU was out in full force with the ATU Ossoff/Warnock Express bus rolling across the state to mobilize riders and the public to vote for Ossoff and Warnock. We're very proud of the work the ATU contributed to these meaningful victories. We finished the job, which will be critical to passing the Biden 'Build Back Better' agenda."

With the ATU Ossoff/Warnock Express bus as a backdrop, ATU Georgia bus drivers, train operators, and other transit workers attended social distance rallies, flooded transit centers, and leafleted riders and the public to encourage them to get out and vote.

In addition, the ATU launched an aggressive member-to-member program with direct mail pieces and digital campaigns targeting thousands of ATU Georgia members and participated in the AFL-CIO's virtual phone banks to reach out to union households in Georgia to ask for their support.

"The ATU supported Ossoff and Warnock not only because of how important these races were to the future of the Senate but because Ossoff and Warnock are champions for working families and transit," said Costa. "As Senators, they will bring working people's concerns to Washington, D.C."

Thanks to Georgia voters, many of them people of color, this is the second time in nearly three decades that the state has flipped blue, the first being the Biden-Harris victory this past November. With the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and the widespread pandemic, working people across Georgia went to the ballot box and voted for change.

"We offer our congratulations to Senators-elect Ossoff and Warnock and look forward to working with them. We also welcome this new era in American politics, which will be led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, where we know we can secure a strong legislative agenda for transportation and working people," concluded Costa.
