Washington, DC - Amalgamated Transit Union International President Larry Hanley expressed strong support for the London Underground workers’ recent 48-hour strike protesting ticket office job cuts and the threat of declaring their work an “essential service.”
“I want to express the solidarity of all of our members with striking London underground workers,” asserted Hanley, who heads up the largest transit union in North America. “This attack on transit and workers is happening across the world. It isn’t just about jobs it’s about protecting transit service that commuters, seniors and people with disabilities rely on each day.”
Hanley conveyed ATU’s support with the Transport Salaried Staff’s Association and the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union’s conviction that “Every Job Matters.”
“We urge Mayor Boris Johnson to negotiate a fair resolution to this crisis with the unions in the coming talks,” Hanley said.
