A Season of Solidarity
This year’s 61st ATU International Convention was a powerful reminder of who we are as a Union and what we can achieve when we stand together. It was beautiful to see leaders from across North America come together to shape the future of the ATU.
For me personally, the Convention was deeply meaningful. With my loved ones looking on, I was humbled to be reelected to a second three-year term as your International Executive Vice President. I don’t take this trust lightly. Every day, I’m inspired by the courage and resilience of our ATU members, and it’s my honor to continue building a stronger, more inclusive ATU together, one that leaves no worker behind.
Canadian Victories: A Testament to Unity
Our ATU brothers and sisters in Canada have been making headlines for all the right reasons this year. From coast to coast, Canadian Locals have won impressive contracts, secured improved safety measures, and strengthened workers’ voices through various strikes.
Whether it’s winning wage increases that keep up with the cost of living or ensuring that transit workers are treated with the dignity they deserve, Canadian ATU members are showing what can be accomplished when we organize and stand firm.
Empowering the Next Generation
I was able to attend many ATU training and education programs in person this year. A strong union is an educated union. Through the ATU, members are learning how to build power in the workplace, advocate for change, and protect the rights of all working people.
From New Officers to Steward training, these programs give our members the tools they need to lead with confidence. Education is empowerment, and every session we hold strengthens the foundation of our Union for generations to come.
A Time to Reflect and Give Thanks
As the holidays approach, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings of being part of the labor movement. Every day, we see the power of collective action, how ordinary working people can achieve extraordinary things when they unite behind a common cause.
I’m thankful for every ATU member, for your dedication, your hard work, and your belief in the power of solidarity. The holidays remind us that our greatest strength lies in our community, in the connections we build and the values we share.
Honored to Be Recognized as a Trailblazer
This year, I had the incredible honor of being recognized by the Latinas First Foundation as a Trailblazer. As a Latina in the labor movement, I’m committed to continuing the legacy of lifting others up, breaking barriers, and ensuring that the doors we open today stay open for the next generation.
My ultimate goal is to leave behind a legacy of empowerment. As I said during my Latinas First interview, my message is simple: Never let anyone tell you what you can’t do. Push past obstacles, raise your voice, and always, always believe in your worth. You’re capable of achieving far more than you can imagine.
Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a New Year that brings you everything you’ve been fighting for.
