Welcome to Washington, DC, to our Union’s newest Local officers! An educated union leader is a powerful leader, that’s why International President John Costa spoke to attendees about his career and experience as a new officer and gave invaluable first-hand advice as they start off their week in ATU’s innovative New Officers’ Training. This program is about empowering our officers with new strategies to strengthen their Locals and getting their members involved to prepare for the battles ahead.
“I’ve been in your shoes. I know you can’t run a Union from your office, and you need to get your members involved,” said Costa. “This training will help you learn the skills to best serve your members. It’s also an opportunity to network with your fellow Local officers, who are dealing with the same issues. Please know the International is here to assist you and your Local, whether it’s legal, negotiations, workforce development, health and safety, or communications. This training is so you can deliver for our members.”
Over the week, the Local leaders will hear from ATU International staff on a wide variety of topics and strategies to run their Locals and advocate for our members.
