Today, more than 60 President/Business Agents and Financial Secretaries from Locals across North America hit the ground running on day one of the ATU’s New Officer Training.
International President John Costa kicked the training off, giving invaluable advice to the new officers: “Union leadership isn’t done behind a desk. It’s done at work and out in the community alongside our members,” said Costa. “Being a leader means being visible, organizing on the ground, and making sure members understand their power. Our strength comes from mobilizing workers for contract fights, job actions, and every challenge we face on the job. The International stands shoulder to shoulder with you by providing the legal, bargaining, and strategic support needed to back our Locals up and deliver real, enforceable wins for our members.”
Over the week, the Local leaders will hear from experts and staff on a wide variety of topics, including new strategies to strengthen their Locals and empower their members to get involved and prepare for the battles ahead. Secretary-Treasurer Ken Kirk and International Executive Vice President Yvette Trujillo were also there to greet the new officers at this innovative training.
