After the ATU Midwest Conference Board meeting in Riverside, Iowa, more than 130 members from 26 Locals across 12 states in the Midwest took part in one of our innovative ATU Shop Steward trainings.
International Executive Vice-President Yvette Trujillo and International Secretary-Treasurer Ken Kirk kicked off the training.
“Before becoming the Executive Vice-President of the ATU, I was just like you, a Shop Steward. Coming up through the ranks, starting off as a Shop Steward, Recording Secretary, then the President of Local 1001-Denver, CO. I know that Shop Stewards are the core of every union,” Trujillo told the attendees. “As a Shop Steward, you protect and empower our members and fight for fairness on the job, making sure that every voice is heard and their rights are protected. Thank you for the job you do and taking time to attend this important training.”
Conducted by ATU International staff, the interactive training focused on the important role of Shop Stewards within their Local and discussed leadership, organization, and communication. Featuring hands-on exercises, attendees learned their legal rights, bargaining tactics, grievance procedures and handling, and other duties of the job.

Also in attendance at the training were International Vice Presidents Marcellus Barnes, Michelle Sommers, Natalie Cruz, Amanda Sawyer-Turner, Art Aguillar, Jacques Chapman, and Ken Day, along with retired IVP Janice Borchardt.
Thank you to all our Stewards for everything you do for our Union.
