International President John Costa traveled to Berlin, Germany, this week to participate in high-level meetings with the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), where he proudly serves as the North American Chair for Road Transport. The annual gathering brings together labor leaders from around the world to address critical issues facing all sectors of road transport.
As part of this global coalition, President Costa joined fellow representatives in discussing emerging industry challenges, such as automation, climate change, safety standards, worker rights, and the rise of the gig economy. The discussion also focused on the critical importance of strengthening women’s inclusion in the workplace and within our broader labor movement. This entails creating equitable opportunities for women to participate and lead in various sectors, ensuring their voices are heard and their contributions are valued.

Together, they strategized on collective solutions to protect transport workers, promote fair labor practices, and strengthen union solidarity across borders. As an International union, Costa’s leadership role underscores the vital contribution of North American unions in shaping international transport policy and advancing the rights of workers worldwide.
