Day two of the ATU Canada Conference brought powerful conversations, bold ideas, and unwavering solidarity as we continue building a stronger, more united transit workforce across Canada.
A highlight of the day was hearing from International President John Costa, who reminded us why we’re here: “Our fight is not just for better jobs, it's for better lives, stronger communities, and a transit system that works for everyone. You’re doing the hard work that it takes to make a major change. We have a lot of tough fights coming, but it feels good to fight back, right? Keep fighting, keep connecting, and let’s keep winning.” Costa also gave delegates an update about our Local 1548 members in Taunton, Massachusetts, who, after walking off the job, got a tentative agreement to go back to work serving the community.

With leaders like President Costa and our Canadian members ready to stand shoulder to shoulder, the future of transit in Canada is in good hands.
Today, with the retirement of Local 107-Hamilton President and ATU Canada Vice President Eric Tuck, delegates also had the opportunity to elect new ATU Canada Executive Board Members, who President Costa had the honor of swearing in. Congratulations, Local 1572-Mississauga, ON, President Jack Jackson, as Vice President, and Local 279, ON, President Noah Vineberg, as Executive Board member.
From energizing speakers, including Ontario Labour Federation President Laura Walton, Canadian Labour Congress President Bea Bruske, and Edmonton & District Labour Council President Greg Mady, to impactful discussions on public transit funding, safety, and worker rights, our members are showing up with purpose and passion. Thank you, ATU Canada, and our Canadian leaders, for stepping up for our members.
Joining Costa on Day 2 were International Secretary Treasurer Ken Kirk and International Vice Presidents Manny Sforza, John Callahan, and Ken Wilson.
