Today marked a major milestone for our union family as ATU Canada celebrated its 10th Anniversary at their national conference with International President John Costa and International Secretary Treasurer Ken Kirk in attendance to help commemorate this historic occasion.
President Costa addressed delegates from coast to coast, recognizing the incredible progress ATU Canada has made in just a decade. From fighting for transit worker safety, pushing for sustainable funding for public transit, defending pensions and fair contracts, to standing strong on picket lines, ATU Canada has never wavered in its mission to protect and empower our members.
In his remarks, President Costa praised ATU Canada’s leadership for being “a bold and fearless voice for transit workers across the country,” and emphasized that unity between our Canadian and U.S. locals has never been stronger. “I want to thank President John Di Nino, the ATU Canada Executive Board, and all the delegates here today for the leadership you provide working people across Canada. When people talk about the backbone of our cities, they’re talking about you, the transit professionals who never quit. Together, we’re building a truly international movement rooted in solidarity and driven by action.”

This conference was a reaffirmation of our collective power and a call to continue the fight for dignity, safety, and respect for all transit workers. Strategy sessions and passionate discussions made it clear: the next 10 years will be even stronger.
Congratulations to the entire ATU Canada team, leadership, and members for a decade of dedicated service, powerful advocacy, and unwavering commitment to the values of our union.
Here’s to the next chapter, united, organized, and ready to win. Stay tuned for day two.
