MLK Day marred by the spirit of hate in the White House

Amalgamated Transit Union International President Larry Hanley released the following statement to mark Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who freely accepted his own martyrdom at the hands of bigots, through his life strove to show Americans how to consort with our own ‘better angels.’

“His holiday, in the 50th year since his execution by the spirit of hate, is marred by the presence of that spirit in the White House.

“The vast majority of Americans are sons and daughters of people who were hated for who they were.

“America celebrates “King Day,” by celebrating courage, love and freedom for all people. We disavow statements made by the president.”
