ATU Stands in Solidarity with Striking Oklahoma and Kentucky Teachers

ATU International President Larry Hanley issued the following statement in support of striking Oklahoma and Kentucky teachers.

“Following in the footsteps of their victorious fellow teachers in West Virginia, teachers in Oklahoma and Kentucky are providing a live action civics class on worker power in their fight for respect and basic dignity for themselves, their schools and students, and all working families.

“The 199,000 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union stand in solidarity with these teachers and applaud them for standing courageous and united. Your fight is our fight as our members face attacks on the public sector with austerity measures, declining real wages and benefits, and threats of privatization.

“Your strength, commitment, and resolve has put the anti-union corporate forces, right-wing politicians, and billionaire backers on notice that enough is enough, organized labor is a force to be reckoned with, and an injury to one is an injury to all.”
