ATU Celebrates the Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris

Silver Spring, MD – Amalgamated Transit Union International President John Costa released the following statement marking the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

"As we watch the historic inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman and first Black and South Asian American in our Nation's second-highest office, we bear witness to the enduring strength of our democracy. Your votes counted, and your voices were heard.

"As early endorsers of President Biden, we are proud of the role the ATU and our members across the country played in mobilizing voters to turn out in record numbers. We actively organized for the Presidential race and the critical Georgia run-off races, which flipped control of the U.S. Senate.

"Through these elections, we proved once again the power of working people standing together. Now is the time to help Joe Biden Build Back Better in the first 100 days to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and pass meaningful legislation that lifts up working people, expands public transit, and strengthens the labor movement. Now is the time to come together to pursue economic, social, and racial justice for all.

"On behalf of the more than 200,000 members of the Amalgamated Transit Union, we congratulate President Biden and Vice President Harris on this historic day. We look forward to working together over the next four years to move our Nation forward for all Americans."
