ATU: Biden's removal of NLRB’s Peter Robb and appointment of Lauren McFerran as Chairman, strong first steps for workers

Silver Spring, MD – The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) International President John Costa released the following statement regarding the removal of NLRB attorney Peter Robb and the appointment of Lauren McFerran as NLRB Chairman.

“It’s a new day in America. Since being inaugurated, President Biden is already keeping to his promise of ensuring that the federal law is faithfully applied and enforced, including when it involves workers and their unions.  As President, minutes after being sworn in, Biden asked Peter Robb, general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), to resign and appointed the pro-worker Lauren McFerran as the new Chairman.

"As the NLRB’s general counsel, Robb was charged with enforcing the laws to protect workers. Under Robb’s legal guidance, the NLRB led an assault on the very rights he was entrusted to protect, the rights of working people to join a union and engage in collective bargaining.

"In light of Robb’s refusal to enforce the law he was entrusted with enforcing, and in the face of Robb’s refusal to resign, Biden rightly dismissed Robb.

“The appointment of New Chairman McFerran will restore faith and credibility at the NLRB to enforce and promote the laws to protect working Americans and their families.

“The ATU applauds Robb’s dismissal and the appointment of McFerran. It shows how serious the Biden Administration is on insisting on the faithful enforcement of the nation’s labor laws and building a pro-worker agenda in America.”
