ATU applauds House for passing the PRO Act, calls on Senate to act on landmark worker rights bill

Silver Spring, MD – ATU International President John Costa released the following statement on the House passage of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act:

"This is the most important worker legislation in a generation and will reinforce the laws that protect a worker's rights to organize into a union and collectively bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. We applaud the House for moving this historic bill one step closer to becoming law.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has put into sharp focus the significant role transit workers, school bus workers, and all essential workers play in our society. These heroes deserve laws that protect them and allow them the opportunity to succeed while serving their communities.

“Current U.S. Labor Laws enable anti-union corporations to crush workers' dreams. The PRO Act would modernize the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) by bringing its remedies in line with other workplace laws.

“The PRO Act will strengthen equality and advance dignity on the job for all workers. We strongly encourage the Senate to pass this landmark bill immediately to increase the power of American workers, rebuild our economy fairly, and grow America's labor movement.”
