ATU in the Mid-Atlantic

The Amalgamated Transit Union is the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1892, the ATU today is comprised of over 180,000 members in 267 local unions spread across 46 states and nine provinces.

The ATU drives the Mid-Atlantic by providing transit, paratransit, school bus, commuter, shuttle, charter and intercity transportation options to the millions of residents and tourists of the eastern sea board.  The six states, and America's capital, of the mid-atlantic rely on our service.  You can see our presence from the mountains of West Virginia (Locals 103, 812 and 1742) to the South Carolina coast (Local 610).

ATU Locals 689, 1300, 1708, 1757 and 1764 ensure that the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. corridor, and the nation, keep moving.  Their members serve federal workers, including those of the Pentagon, the White House and Congress.  They also provide an invaluable service to travelers who come to visit America's world class museums, monuments and convention centers.  From the cherry blossom festival to the lighting of the national Christmas tree, tourists and residents of the nations capital are moved by ATU members.

The ATU is also responsible for moving the brightest minds in the nation in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. This area consists of the research universities of Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University.  The Triangle's population is the most educated in the United States, with the highest number of Ph.D.'s per capita.
