The ATU has been the union for school bus employees for over a century.  Today we represent in excess of 20,000 school bus drivers, mechanics, matrons, escorts and aides in the U.S. and Canada. 

When it comes to transporting our most precious cargo, our children, the ATU has lead the way in safety and security.  We successfully lobbyied for a ban on small vans for school transport.  This effort ensures that school children are riding in vehicles that meet federal safety standards for school buses. 

The ATU was the first union to fight for professional CDL licenses for school bus drivers, the first to demand and provide safety and security training for our members, and the first to insist on long term job security, pensions and health benefits.  We have fought to address school bus violence, to replace diesel with clean burning fuels, to protect our members from harmful diesel exhaust, and to fiercely oppose the conservative-led "65% solution," which would devastate student transportation. 

Today our members enjoy the highest pay and benefits in the industry.  And, the parents of our passengers enjoy the comfort of knowing a well trained professional has accepted responsibilty for the safety and security of their children between home and school.
