ATU in the Midwest

The Amalgamated Transit Union is the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1892, the ATU today is comprised of over 180,000 members in 267 local unions spread across 46 states and nine provinces.

ATU serves America's heartland.  The many ATU locals that serve the Mid-west provide transportation to the geograhpic (Kansas) and population (Missouri) centers of the U.S.
The Midwest enjoys the highest employment rate of any U.S. region, thanks in no small part to the many public and private transportation options ATU members offer.

The ATU has a presence in the largest cities of the Midwest.  The metropolitan regions in and around Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Milwaukee all benefit from the hard work and dedication of ATU members.

ATU members also service the roads less traveled.  Tourists visiting the childhood hometown of Wilbur and Orville Wright in Richmond, IN have the option of letting members of ATU Local 1474 do the driving.  Those same tourists can take a Greyhound bus driven by an ATU Local 1700 member to explore the site of Hank Aaron's first professional baseball assignment in the City of Eau Claire, WI (Local 1310).

ATU members commitment to their customers is rivaled only by their loyalty to the labor movement.  Member Activists and Organizers of the Mid-West Organizing Committee are out in force to bring security to those without representation, and to make sure that those who are represented keep the gains that so many have sacrificed to achieve.

If the Mid-west is America's heartland, then ATU is America's heartbeat.  We keep you moving.
