ATU in the Pacific/Rocky Mountain

The Amalgamated Transit Union is the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1892, the ATU today is comprised of over 180,000 members in 267local unions spread across 46 states and nine provinces.

The people of the Pacific/Rocky Mountain region are as diverse as the landscape of the Western U.S.  From the world's largest temperate rain forest in the Pacific Northwest over the snow capped Rockies down to the desert oases of Las Vegas and Phoenix over to the sun soaked shores of southern California, ATU members reflect that diversity.

Droves of commuters, tourists and sightseers rely on ATU members to reach their destinations in the West.  In addition, parents entrust the safety and security of our most prescious cargo, children, to the thousands of school bus drivers who navigate our neighborhoods.  ATU has earned this trust through years of loyal and reliable service to school districts (such as Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District, Local 256) and contractors, such as First Student and Laidlaw.  ATU represents more school bus operators employed by First Student and Laidlaw than any other labor union.

Like their brothers and sisters througout the U.S. and Canada, ATU-Organizers are hard at work in the Pacific/Rocky Mountain region.  Recent victories for workers in Porland, OR (Local 757) and Denver, CO (Local 1755, with the assitance of Local 1001) illustrate how ATU members are making a difference.
