Jackie McBride
Rec. Sec., ATU Local 1395, 1395
"I'm so proud of the activists from our local," says Local President Mike Lowery, 1395-Pensacola, FL. One of those activists is Recording Secretary Jackie McBride. According to Lowery, McBride and fellow member Gerri Bell worked 12 hour days, six days a week to help election labor-endorsed candidates in Florida.
McBride said that volunteering was a real learning experience for her. Not only did she provide valuable information to other union members, but she learned all about candidates and the different issues that affect her life as well.
Among the many political activities that McBride took part in, she most enjoyed the Labor Walks. "Everyone greeted us with cheerful smiles," said McBride about the union members she contacted at their doors. "It was great to get to have a one-on-one conversation with so many people about important issues in our community."
Knowledge and Power
"Being an activist has given me the knowledge and power to help my fellow union members," said McBride. "I know that by getting more ATU members involved, we made a difference."
