Know Your Rights: Local Union Information And a Member's Right to Know
Amalgamated Transit Union members are encouraged, indeed expected, to participate in the affairs of their local union. While competing demands on a member’s time often make it difficult to attend every monthly membership meeting, it is important to attend as many meetings as possible.
As a member of the ATU, and as required by federal and provincial law, you have the right to acquire copies of or be given access to the information listed below:

Pension Plan -Summary Plan Description

Health Plan - Summary Plan Description

401(k)/457 Plan - Summary Plan Description

L.U. financial reports presented at monthly membership meeings - Individual copies are not required at that time; upon request, L.U. makes copies available for review at local union office

As indicated above, members do not have an absolute or unqualifi ed right to review and copy all information available at the local union. Requests to review certain documents to verify reported information require the submission of a statement to the local union offi cers justifying the request and purpose for the examination of such material.
Any member who has questions with respect to these rights should first contact their local union officers and thereafter the International office, if necessary.
